This past Saturday with the warm sun shining bright making it feel like Spring I decided to get out and do some casting.
The first stop before I left was a visit to NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife website to make the fishing license purchase. Easy enough since most of my info was saved from last year. Now if I could just find the plastic license holder that always gets misplaced. Instead of wasting time searching for it, a quick trip to Ramsey Outdoor and $2 and change I was ready to go. If you a Sopranos fan you have seen this store on the tube, it is where Tony use to visit and one of the guys use to sleep in a tent.
Finally made it to the water, the Passaic River, home of pike, carp, catfish, and small-mouth. The trout are stock further up stream. The Passaic is or should I say was one of the more polluted rivers in the country but is making a comeback big time. I brought along my ultra light spinning rod and reel and fan casted a few small jigs with no luck. Yes I did say spinning, not all on the fly.
My next stop was a visit to the upper Saddle River, a place I have not been in 10+ years. Lets just say I have changed more than the river has over the years. Here I spent an hour or so casting a woolly bugger into the deeper flowing water. No action but might have done better with a few small nymphs. Overall a very nice day to get out of the house and the bonus was I did not see anyone else fishing.
