The official start of trout season opened in NJ this past Saturday, as always I stayed away from the crowds and went fishing in a non stocked area. Sorry but wall to wall anglers does not excite me the least.
I picked up a copy of Handbook of Hatches by Dave Hughes, A basic guide to identifying trout foods and selecting flies to match them.
The back covers reads: A simplified, direct, easy-to-grasp system for studying insects at the order level. From that description it sounds like it will work for me. It will be great to get some knowledge regarding the insects and proper flies to tie on.
On the fishing front I am thinking about getting out late Saturday afternoon, less crowds and overall nonsense.
Have A Great Day!
